What to wear today?

Wednesday, May 13th, 2009

Sometimes I have a hard time getting dressed…… mostly that I can’t pick just ONE thing to wear. I feel this way about our summer clothing collection, currently available at Militant Penguin here in Vancouver…. take a look:

trapeze-top

Our Trapeze top is perfect for breezy afternoons, or evenings out. It’s unrestrictive cut floats away from the body, so it’s a good accompaniment when you’ve just pulled your skinny jeans off the clothes line.

Our Reversible Dress does double duty: you can wear it with the cross over in the front as shown, or wear it’s straight across neckline, the choice is yours. This style is flattering and comfortable as it creates a waist thanks to the banded detail, which cinches, but not in an I-can’t-breathe sort of way.

ruffle-tube-top

Perfect for hot days, our Ruffled Tube Top is more dressed up than a t-shirt, but just as comfortable.

wrap-skirt

Our Wrap Skirt would be perfect for work with a tank top, little cardigan and some flats for some 50’s chic ala Mad Men.

When in doubt, our Sundress will make it easy: it’s halter neck allows you to stay cool, and the breezy wrap style skirt keeps it fun. Now you just have to pick a flipflop……

Why walk when you can crawl??

Hello Everyone!!

Well, it’s that time again….. Eastside Culture Crawl is this weekend, and it promises to be better than even last year (which was awesome!!) I’ve been working late to make sure we have loads of new things for even the choosiest of Astrosatchel fans, and lots of new stuff that isn’t available in stores.

If you’re starting your holidays shopping, there’s a lot of items perfect for gifting, and we have quite a lot of items for under $40.00 (which includes our sale bin— shop early, that’s all I can say on that!!) If you’re hungry, fear not, we’re serving an all vegan menu this go around (come early before that’s all gone too!!) and if you’re naked, we’ll have lots of clothing options for the clothing optional!!

There are 13 artists showing at 339 Railway Street, more than ever before, so it should be lots of fun!! I still have a few copies of the program guide left too, so if you make us your first stop, be sure to ask for a copy.

The best thing about the Eastside Culture Crawl is the event itself: in its 12th year and with over 300 participating artsts, it’s one of the largest open studio events in Western Canada, and it’s an artist run event– Top notch in my books!! It’s a chance to peek inside the studios and minds of fellow Vancouverites…… come on, you know you want to!! This year the Crawl is important for other reasons: Development looms large over many artists, who’s studio buildings are owned by property development companies. When we lose buildings, we put our local arts and culture at severe risk….. but most of the time, people don’t know we exist in these buildings in the first place……. so it’s super important to come out and see what’s happening in our city— Robson street will still be there next weekend!!

For a more in depth look at the Eastside Culture Crawl, including a full list of buildings and artists, check out our website: www.eastsideculturecrawl.com

Hours for this year are:

Friday Nov 21- 5pm to 10pm

Saturday Nov 22- 11am to 6pm

Sunday Nov 23- 11 am to 6pm

See you this weekend!! xo Janna

Why be naked? Fall clothes are here!!

Hey everybody, our Fall clothing line is done, and it’s better than ever….. Everything shown is currently availible at Pleasant Girl (2541 Main Street in Vancouver) and at our studio……Have a look:

Just in time for Back to School, our super cute Denim Jumper ($109) has pockets for your pencils, keys and cell phone. I’m loving mine with leggings and flat boots, and of course our new Wool Friday purse!!

tieblouse.jpg
I love a recycled textile, and our Tie Blouse ($92) doesn’t disappoint! We have a couple fab fabric patterns available, and all have a snap placket at the side, so no more boob-gape–something we can all enjoy!!
denimmini.jpg

Our Stretch Denim Mini is great with our Tie Blouse and tights…… I love the combination of a fitted skirt with a more voluminous top, it’s stylish and effortless at the same time. I have a feeling this will be my go-to skirt this winter…….

stripedtop.jpg

Also good with our Denim Mini, our Striped Draped Neck Top ($68) is sure to be a grab and go item on the days you’re running late (or maybe that’s just me!!) It’s super soft knit jersey, so it feels casual like a t-shirt, and the draped neck makes it special.

boucleskirt.jpg

Our Wrap Skirt is a fall basic, and this one ($79) won’t let you down!! Tie it at the waist or hip, this skirt falls from the body in a 50’s meets 70’s sort of way that looks great on every body type—Yay!!

cowltunic.jpg

Our Cowl Neck Tunic ($68) is also super easy to wear, and it’s made from a Bamboo/Cotton/Spandex blend, so it’s super comfortable + eco to boot!! It’s super long in length, and cut to be sleek on the body…… I can’t wait to wear mine with skinny jeans and the 80’s belts I keep finding!!

sweater.jpg

Our Tie Closure Sweater ($109) features granny pockets and multi-coloured disco stripe fabric detail, so it will go with pretty much everything. Made from stretch fleece, it feels as comfortable as your favorite house coat, but in a much more eye pleasing way!!

I hope you enjoy our Fall clothing items…… email me if you’re not in Vancouver and I’ll do my best to get you your size. Bye for now, Janna
