Colour your world!!

whiteout

We can all use a bit more colour in our lives these days, so if you’re finding yourself lacking, look no further: OUR SPRING COLECTION IS HERE!! It’s more about colour and shape, rather than specific ‘things’ so let your inner minimal-modernist out and put some colour back in your life. Everything is available now in my online shopping store, check it out!!

fireworks-1

STITCHED FIREWORKS — I’m loving this random combination of stitching and colours right now, which to me look like fireworks, but could really be just about anything, which is the real wonder of modernism!!

hyacinth-1

HYACINTH — this has a certain gum-ball feel to it, but without the 5 second sugary sweetness followed by the remorse of having wasted a quarter on something that now tastes like nothing.

jadeplant-1

JADE PLANT — A perennial favorite houseplant, brought to life in vivid brights, no need to water.

modblobs-1

MOD BLOBS — I’m loving this very organic looking applique, which reminds me of 70’s curtains  and garden pavers all at once.

seagull-1

SEA GULL — this makes me think of my daily walks along the sea wall in Coal Harbour, watching the birds and boats and feeling the wind in my hair, while praying that I don’t get pooped on by one of the birds.

sprouts-1

SPROUTS — I always love when they show time lapse videos of seeds sprouting into plants, don’t you? I like the modern form on this bag too, satisfying both my love of nature and simple forms all at once.

wheat-1

WHEAT — inspired in part by the wheat emblazoned freight cars that pass beneath my studio window, and 80’s patchwork leather purses. Feather clip not included….

Let me know what you think of everything, and I’ll be in touch again soon with open studio details. Bye for now, and enjoy!! XO Janna

villagepeople

Sorry it’s been a while, I’ve had my head in the clouds recently with lots on the go this month ….. here’s the highlights:

I’ve added NEW FALL ITEMS to our online shopping: new bags, cashmere scarves to keep you warm, oven mitts to keep you cool, and there will be more to come as the holiday season approaches…..

I’ve been sending stuff far and near: Militant Penguin on Main Street, Tartooful (now at 3183 Edgemont Blvd in North Vancouver), Naka in Ferndale, Michigan, Cherry Blossom Boutique in Kaslo BC, and Whirled Arts in Victoria BC.

I’m getting the studio ready for the Holiday show season, first up is Eastside Culture Crawl in November (20,21,22) so if you’re planning a trip to Vancity, that’s a really great weekend to check out the city, particularly what’s happening here in the  Eastside area arts scene. There will be more shows to come, but one thing at a time!!  XO Janna

Cabin Chic this Fall

Sunday, August 9th, 2009

friday

It’s still summery out there in the wilds of British Columbia, but it seems even when I’m camping, I think about how to best accessorize my outfit. I’ve been getting lots of Fall 2009 items together at the studio, so whenever fall officially hits, you’ll be ready…… We’re rocking the Canadiana, grab your toque and check it out:

canadageese

CANADA GEESE flying by…..

chickadee

CHICKADEES too……

birchtree

BIRCH TREES remind me of my childhood home in Ontario

animalportrait

Our ANIMAL PORTRAIT, a real Hinterland Who’s Who…….

buck

Our BUCK PORTRAIT, suitably attired in plaid check

chineselanterns

CHINESE LANTERNS, aka Ground Cherries, their fragile lanterns reveal a small fruit inside, but I love them for their rich orange colour, which always reminds me of Fall.

I hope you’re loving our new Fall collection too!! We should have these new items in our online shopping site really soon, but if you really can’t wait, drop me a line or come by our studio for our next Open Studio Saturday, August 22 2009….. I’ll be here!! xo Janna

What to wear today?

Wednesday, May 13th, 2009

Sometimes I have a hard time getting dressed…… mostly that I can’t pick just ONE thing to wear. I feel this way about our summer clothing collection, currently available at Militant Penguin here in Vancouver…. take a look:

trapeze-top

Our Trapeze top is perfect for breezy afternoons, or evenings out. It’s unrestrictive cut floats away from the body, so it’s a good accompaniment when you’ve just pulled your skinny jeans off the clothes line.

dress5

Our Reversible Dress does double duty: you can wear it with the cross over in the front as shown, or wear it’s straight across neckline, the choice is yours. This style is flattering and comfortable as it creates a waist thanks to the banded detail, which cinches, but not in an I-can’t-breathe sort of way.

ruffle-tube-top

Perfect for hot days, our Ruffled Tube Top is more dressed up than a t-shirt, but just as comfortable.

wrap-skirt

Our Wrap Skirt would be perfect for work with a tank top, little cardigan and some flats for some 50’s chic ala Mad Men.

wrap-dress1

When in doubt, our Sundress will make it easy: it’s halter neck allows you to stay cool, and the breezy wrap style skirt keeps it fun. Now you just have to pick a flipflop……

Get ready for Spring!!

Monday, February 2nd, 2009

Spring 2009 is here at last, or at least it’s here bag wise. So even if you’re still under a foot of snow, you can have a happy new bag: Have a peek and let us know what you think!!

egg-bag1

This is our brand spanking new Egg Bag which I’m really quite pleased with. It fits comfortably over your shoulder, or can be carried in hand. It’s big enough to carry daily essentials, while kicking the style quotient up a notch.

feather

Feathers!! Light and floaty, our new Feather bag will carry all your stuff and then some. Might we also suggest the extra cute Feather Lipstick Case to accompany your new Medium Tote….

flock

I love the cheerful chicks on our new Flock bag, and I’m sure you will too!! As they say, birds of a feather flock together…..

tree-print

Our new Tree Print makes me smile too…..

border-flower

I must admit, I miss the days of wallpaper. As a textile junkie, I would do a whole room in our new Wallpaper Flower, but I would keep the furniture and accessories to a minimum.

cloud-band

I really love clouds, if my last blog post was any indication, and I love our new Cloud Band….. it reminds me of Hawaii with the trade winds pushing clouds across the sky, and this combination adds a punch of colour even on less than sunny days.

loop-foliage

For those of you who have been collecting our stitched series, may we present our new Loop Foliage pattern….. I’m sure it will be your new favorite!!

scissors

Crafters, Hairdressers and Seamstresses unite, it’s our sharp new Scissor medium tote!! You can run all you want with this one—it’s big fun print won’t let you down, even when you’re rushing to make it into Dressew before they close at 5:15.

legs

Legs!! For the girl who longs to kick off her shoes and kick up her heels, we offer our new Legs bag. Get the Justice going on your iPod, and D.A.N.C.E…… or whatever gets you going!!

Why walk when you can crawl??

tortoise-hawaii.jpg

Hello Everyone!!

Well, it’s that time again….. Eastside Culture Crawl is this weekend, and it promises to be better than even last year (which was awesome!!) I’ve been working late to make sure we have loads of new things for even the choosiest of Astrosatchel fans, and lots of new stuff that isn’t available in stores.

If you’re starting your holidays shopping, there’s a lot of items perfect for gifting, and we have quite a lot of items for under $40.00 (which includes our sale bin— shop early, that’s all I can say on that!!) If you’re hungry, fear not, we’re serving an all vegan menu this go around (come early before that’s all gone too!!) and if you’re naked, we’ll have lots of clothing options for the clothing optional!!

There are 13 artists showing at 339 Railway Street, more than ever before, so it should be lots of fun!! I still have a few copies of the program guide left too, so if you make us your first stop, be sure to ask for a copy.

The best thing about the Eastside Culture Crawl is the event itself: in its 12th year and with over 300 participating artsts, it’s one of the largest open studio events in Western Canada, and it’s an artist run event– Top notch in my books!! It’s a chance to peek inside the studios and minds of fellow Vancouverites…… come on, you know you want to!! This year the Crawl is important for other reasons: Development looms large over many artists, who’s studio buildings are owned by property development companies. When we lose buildings, we put our local arts and culture at severe risk….. but most of the time, people don’t know we exist in these buildings in the first place……. so it’s super important to come out and see what’s happening in our city— Robson street will still be there next weekend!!

For a more in depth look at the Eastside Culture Crawl, including a full list of buildings and artists, check out our website: www.eastsideculturecrawl.com

Hours for this year are:

Friday Nov 21- 5pm to 10pm

Saturday Nov 22- 11am to 6pm

Sunday Nov 23- 11 am to 6pm

See you this weekend!! xo Janna

Why be naked? Fall clothes are here!!

Sunday, September 7th, 2008

pantyhose.jpg

Hey everybody, our Fall clothing line is done, and it’s better than ever….. Everything shown is currently availible at Pleasant Girl (2541 Main Street in Vancouver) and at our studio……Have a look:

group1.jpg

Just in time for Back to School, our super cute Denim Jumper ($109) has pockets for your pencils, keys and cell phone. I’m loving mine with leggings and flat boots, and of course our new Wool Friday purse!!

tieblouse.jpg
I love a recycled textile, and our Tie Blouse ($92) doesn’t disappoint! We have a couple fab fabric patterns available, and all have a snap placket at the side, so no more boob-gape–something we can all enjoy!!
denimmini.jpg

Our Stretch Denim Mini is great with our Tie Blouse and tights…… I love the combination of a fitted skirt with a more voluminous top, it’s stylish and effortless at the same time. I have a feeling this will be my go-to skirt this winter…….

stripedtop.jpg

Also good with our Denim Mini, our Striped Draped Neck Top ($68) is sure to be a grab and go item on the days you’re running late (or maybe that’s just me!!) It’s super soft knit jersey, so it feels casual like a t-shirt, and the draped neck makes it special.

boucleskirt.jpg

Our Wrap Skirt is a fall basic, and this one ($79) won’t let you down!! Tie it at the waist or hip, this skirt falls from the body in a 50’s meets 70’s sort of way that looks great on every body type—Yay!!

cowltunic.jpg

Our Cowl Neck Tunic ($68) is also super easy to wear, and it’s made from a Bamboo/Cotton/Spandex blend, so it’s super comfortable + eco to boot!! It’s super long in length, and cut to be sleek on the body…… I can’t wait to wear mine with skinny jeans and the 80’s belts I keep finding!!

sweater.jpg

Our Tie Closure Sweater ($109) features granny pockets and multi-coloured disco stripe fabric detail, so it will go with pretty much everything. Made from stretch fleece, it feels as comfortable as your favorite house coat, but in a much more eye pleasing way!!

I hope you enjoy our Fall clothing items…… email me if you’re not in Vancouver and I’ll do my best to get you your size. Bye for now, Janna
